This is a memoir by William Baker, one of the last surviving former prisoners from Alcatraz. He was serving a four year sentence for Transportation of a Stolen Vehicle on the Interstate, and sent to Alcatraz at the age of 23, classified as being an escape risk following two attempts from other prisons. After his release, he counterfeited payroll checks and returned to federal prison, finally being released in 2012 at the age of 78. He went on to write this true account of life in Alcatraz prison, his life in crime, and his pathway to redemption.
