Faeries, by Brian Froud and Alan Lee

Faeries, by Brian Froud and Alan Lee. 1978 hardcover. 152 pages, very nice condition.

This is the classic tome upon which modern fairy lore relies. The real Faerie Folk were not saccharine sweet nor were they sanitized for children. Yes, in the time of faeries, they were frequently spoken of in kind words and praise. However, this turn of the phrase was euphemistically chosen out of fear. The wee folk were not ones to be trifled with. With mixed intensions at best, they were known to be vengeful and, at times (as were the gods) downright vicious. Two talented artists, Brian Froud and Alan Lee, explore a truer spirit of the world of faeries in myths, legends, and folklore. Edited by David Larkin.
