XXVI Phases of the Sun Dial: XXVI Stages of the Rebirth, by Jacinto Aneille Rhines Jr. 1991 softcover. 169 pages, very nice condition. SIGNED.

Book of militant black poetry from Jacinto Aneille Rhines, founder of Natures Hotline, a soul food kitchen and youth outreach in Los Angeles. He was featured on the album Blu & Exile by Blu. Also, he was a convicted rapist in the 80s who allegedly used his poetry and unity to lure young black women to his pad. Looks like he's worked to redeem himself since then.

From People v. Rhines, May 6, 1982: About 9 a. m. on September 19 Ms. W., a student, was approached by defendant on a college campus representing himself to be with "The Scholarship Foundation"; he told her she "looked spiritual" and, after some discussion, she agreed to have some juice with him; on the pretense of collecting his mail, he drove her to his apartment; she agreed to go but said she had to come right back to the campus; she intended to wait in the car but went to his apartment when he told her he had some juice. In the apartment they talked and defendant gave her a puff of a marijuana cigarette from which she felt no effect. She said she had to get back to school, but he began reciting poetry about racism and society and not being ashamed of one's body; defendant tried to kiss her and when she refused he appeared to be offended; she kept telling him she had to leave and when she attempted to do so defendant said he wanted to see her "ass"; his tone of voice became more insistent and his facial expression changed "like he was getting angry"…
