The K-9 Chronicles: Book One, by Serpico Wolfgang Krugel - SIGNED
This is one of those rare finds that is so weird I almost hate to part with it…
The K-9 Chronicles: Book One, by Serpico Wolfgang Krugel as told to Alan Louis Krugel. 2006 hardcover. 119 pages, very nice condition. SIGNED with a sticker and business card.
This is what old people do when they retire…they pretend their dogs can write and create fictional worlds for them to live in. As far as I can tell, Serpico, the dog, was a real police dog who was injured in the line of duty and lost his front shoulder and leg. Alan Louis Krugel went through some personal tragedy, himself, and took in various rescue dogs, rehabilitating them with the help of dog guru, Caesar Millan. Somewhere along the line, he must have read Call of the Wild and thought making up stories for his dogs was a good idea. The K-9 Chronicles: Book One is the first in a projected series of five books telling the stories of former police dogs…though I think they only released two and then gave up…or died…I don’t know.
From an online review (probably written by the “author’s” owner): “This book takes the reader into the sensitive soul of a Los Angeles drug-sniffing dog cut down too soon in his young career by a thug's bullet. How he rallies and returns to work is a heartwarming tale, replete with suspense, courage and heart. The writer, at the same time, weaves just enough humor into his story to entertain. The book is a roller coaster of emotions with tear-filled moments as well as joyous moments of triumph. Serpico Wolfgang Krugel is representative of the select number of dogs chosen for dangerous police enforcement duties--dogs that are inextricably linked to their officers in a bond few can fully appreciate. Serpico is a role model for any dog or person finding themselves unexpectedly handicapped---a dog who defies all odds to fulfill his obligations to his humans and the force.”
