Alex, the Kid with AIDS, by Linda Walvoord Girard. 1991 hardcover. 32 pages, very nice condition
Alex is the new kid in school, and he has the AIDS (he got it from the dreaded “blood transfusion” that gives everyone AIDS in children’s books). Alex has no friends and is pretty much a dick. He uses his illness to get away with things in school and that makes one kid like him. He writes a nasty poem about his teacher but gets sick before he can get in trouble for it. When he comes back to school, the teacher gets fed up with his illness and starts treating him like a normal kid. So much so, that when he cuts himself and bleeds on the playground, no one really cares but now they like him. If he grows up, Alex will probably be a terrible person.
